THE exemplary use of technology in her classes at the Alexandra School has earned teacher, Rosalind Charlemagne, the Saint Peter's Bay Technology Integration Award 2008.
As part of her prize, Charlemagne will join a five-teacher Barbadian contingent at the annual conference of the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development, which is the largest teachers' professional organization in the world with over 180,000 members, in Orlando, Florida in March.
“In my classes, I use my own projector, laptop, portable screen and also allow the students to watch video documentaries associated with the topics. I also distribute PowerPoint presentations, digital notes and utilize various software programs, all of which have proven to be very effective teaching and learning tools. They help to make the classes lively, more interesting and encourage class participation.
“It calls for more preparation on my part, but it enhances the productivity and creativity of the students and boosts their academic success. Receiving this award is great as it shows that my efforts are appreciated,” said Charlemagne, who teaches Geography, History and Social Studies at all levels in the school.
Jeff Broomes, principal of the Alexandra School, thanked Saint Peter’s Bay for its continued support and explained that the selection of the recipient of the award was based on how they integrated technology in their classes.
“As a participant in the Edutech programme and in keeping with the advanced environment we live in, we encourage the use of the technology provided and Ms. Charlemagne goes beyond her call of duty and uses her initiative to ensure her students fully benefit in this aspect.
“This kind of dedication has made her the deserving recipient of the Saint Peter’s Bay Technology Integration Award and we are confident that the valuable information she gathers from the conference will be put to good use to further benefit her students and fellow teachers,” Broomes said.
Betty Cathrow of Saint Peter’s Bay presented Charlemagne with the award at the school’s awards ceremony recently stating that Saint Peter’s Bay remains committed to its mutually beneficial relationship with the Alexandra School as well as playing its part in the community.
