Students looking to excel in their 2008 Caribbean Examination Council's (CXC) exams now have a better chance by way of the Alexandra School's new CXC Summer School programme. The initiative, which has received significant backing from St. Peter's Bay S.R.L., is aimed at giving secondary school students a "jump-start" as they prepare for their exams and as Jeffrey Broomes, principal of Alexandra School, explains, will have beneficial returns for all involved.
"Unlike other summer school courses this new Alexandra programme is considerably less expensive thanks to St. Peter's Bay's worthy contribution and is being taught by qualified, experienced practicing teachers from a variety of schools across the island. The programme will run for five consecutive weeks beginning Monday, July 16, from 9 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. daily, offering 45 hours of tutoring at an affordable cost to all. There are five categories which students will choose one, which features three of 11 subjects including Spanish, English Literature, Geography, Mathematics, Principles of Accounts, English Language, Integrated Science, Social Studies, Chemistry, Physics and Biology." Broomes said.
Chairman of St. Peter's Bay SRL, Bjorn Bjerkhamn, who recently visited the Alexandra School to present Broomes with the sponsorship cheque, expressed his delight in being able to lend support to such a beneficial initiative. "St. Peter's Bay is a community oriented development and we are always pleased to see projects such as this, which aim to give children an extra edge in the educational arena. We are sure that all the students who attend will benefit tremendously from the efforts of Alexandra School and this initiative and look forward to seeing the success of the students who participate," Bjerkhamn said.
St. Peter's Bay S.R.L is currently developing the St. Peter's Bay luxury beachfront condominium development in Road View, St. Peter, which is due to be fully complete and ready for occupation in the latter half of 2009.
