Explore Authentic Barbados
Roughly 500 years ago, at the turn of the 16th century, this idyllic island first became known to Portuguese and Spanish explorers as “Barbados” meaning “bearded ones.” While the stories behind the meaning vary – some claim the name was inspired by the long-hanging roots of the bearded fig trees indigenous to the island, while others believe the name suggests the billowing white foam spraying over the island’s outlying reefs – Barbados today means the best of Caribbean living. From its turquoise waters and white sand beaches to its welcoming culture and storied history, Barbados captures the essence of tropical island beauty and genuine hospitality.
